The World Alliance of Buddhists (WAB) is a network of international Buddhist organizations with worldwide membership from Buddhist temples, organizations, Buddhist educational institutions and individual Buddhist leaders.
It was established on 19th January 2016 in the name of World Alliance of Buddhist Leaders (WABL) and officially launched on 25th – 28th September 2016 (2559 B. E.) during the First Global Buddhist Leaders Congregation in Ayutthaya, Thailand under the Chairmanship of the Founder President Dr. Pornchai Pinyapong.
On the 2nd Global Buddhist Congregation - GBC held on 21st – 25th July 2017 (2560 B. E.) in Malaysia at Dharma Buddhist University (DBU) the members agree to change the name from World Alliance of Buddhist Leaders (WABL) to be World Alliance of Buddhists (WAB ).
On the 3rd Global Buddhist Congregation - GBC held on 7th – 11th December 2018 (2561 B. E.) in Yangon, Myanmar.
To propagate, protect, and promote Buddhism as well as for betterment of the Buddhist society globally, the World Alliance of Buddhists has been formed. Sixty organizations from twenty eight countries have joined together to spread Lord Buddha's teaching in all over the world to establish happiness, peace and harmony. World Alliance of Buddhists has been considered among its affiliated organizations as synonymous with unity for welfare of Buddhist society.
